Lake Yogo

Shiga Prefecture

Lake Yogo is located in the north of Lake Biwa over Shizugatake. The lake is 1.8 square kilometers, 6.4km in circumference and is 132m deep. It is in the basin surrounded by mountains in three directions so the water surface of this lake is 49m lower than the water surface of Lake Biwa. In ancient times, Lake Biwa was called Oe, and Lake Yogo was called Ika-no-koe. The lake also has a legend about Prince Kikuishi, ryujin-god, and angel's clothing.
