Nagahama Castle History Museum

Shiga Prefecture

Nagahama Castle, where Toyotomi Hideyoshi lived at the end of the Age of the Civil Wars, was closed at the beginning of the Edo period. Most of the castle was moved to Hikone Castle and Daitsu-ji temple. Only some stone fences and a well existed within this ruins but in 1983 the castle was restored in Azuchi-Momoyama style and named "Shouwa Shinjou" (Shouwa New Castle). The inside is open to the public as a museum.
