Yumekyobashi Castle Road

Shiga Prefecture Kotoh Area

Kyobashi Bridge, which is located in the Hikone Castle ground in the south-west of Hikonehigashi High School, used to connect the Dainikaku area (also called Uchiguruwa), where high-class warriors lived, and Daisankaku area (also called Uchimachi), where lower to middle class warriors, merchant, and craftsmen lived. Currently, under the theme of "Old New Town," the buildings along Honmachi Street have been renovated into the new Edo period style, making use of the good quality of merchant residences. Honmachi Street is now known as "Yumekyobashi" where coffee shops, boutiques, and private houses reproduce the streets of the Edo period.
