Mandou Festival (Taga Taisha Shrine)

Mandou Festival is held for three days from August 3rd to August 5th in Taga Taisha Shrine every year. The festival is held in praying for the protection of the spirit of the ancestors, since Izanami-no-mikoto is the protective deity of Yomi-no-kuni. The precinct is decorated with more than 10,000 lanterns sent from the followers from all around Japan. Various Shinto rituals are conducted for three days under the light of these lanterns.
