Shinraku Pottery

Shiga Prefecture Koga Area

It is said that Shinraku Pottery began when kawara-tiles were baked for the construction of Shikouraku-no-miya by Emperor Shoumu about 1,250 years ago. There is a traditional noborigama (a kiln made using a slope of a hill or a mountain), a pottery class that can accommodate 500 people, and a restaurant serving food on Shinraku pottery plates. Also, minshuku-type accommodation "Koun-sou" is available.
