Uryu Industrial Arts Hall

Fukui Prefecture Tannan Area

The Uryu Industrial Arts hall is a facility that was established in a paper-making building that was originally built in the middle of the Edo period. The building was moved and restored here. Visitors can observe the whole process of Japanese paper-making, including watching traditional craftsmen make paper using traditional tools and sun-drying it. Uryu has a special type of roof that is made by standing the walls up. It is very rare in Japan to see Uryu on top of the entrance of a building.
