Tsumago-juku

Nagano Prefecture Chushin Area

Tsumago-juku, located at a diverging point to Nakasendo Road and Iida Kaido Road, is very active in preserving the old streets. Even now, buildings made in dashibari-zukuri style with tateshige windows still exists. You can enjoy the scenery which makes you feel as if you had been transported to the Edo period. If you go northward beyond Torii-touge, you will get to Narai-juku, which used to be highly valued as Narai Sengen (1000 houses of Narai).
