Nihondaira

Shizuoka Prefecture Shizuoka Area

Nihondaira is located near the summit of Mt. Udo. The name Nihondaira derives from a myth that when Prince Yamamotakeru saw the four directions from this spot on his way to the expedition to the east. It is a hill that is 308m high above sea level. Visitors can enjoy the view from Shimizu port and Miho pine grove under their eyes, the mountain ranges in Izu, Shizuoka city, and the mountains of southern Alps and even to Omaezaki. It is especially famous for the great view of Mount Fuji and its excellent night view. From the summit of the mountain, visitors can go to Kunouzan Toshogu Shrine by ropeway and visit a museum that displays luxurious shrine buildings and objects relating to Tokugawa Ieyasu. On the coastline at the foot of the mountain, there are many green houses growing strawberries where visitors can enjoy strawberry picking from January to May.
