Jisso-ji Temple

Jisso-ji temple is said to have been built in 1145 by the request of Monk-Emperor Toba. The temple is also known as a place where Nichiren contemplated on the idea of his treatise Rissho Ankoku Ron (Establishing the Correct Teaching for the Peace of the Land). Various halls still survive to this day including the main hall and the issaikyo-gura (storage for all sutras), where Nichiren stayed. Also, a well where Nichiren's disciple Nichiro washed rice is still kept in the precinct.
